Can I Get an EU IBAN Account through eGlobex?
If you have a temporary or secondary residence in France, you may still be eligible to open an eGlobex account. Here’s what you need to know about who can apply, how the onboarding process works, and why holding an EU IBAN can be such a valuable financial tool, especially in Europe!
Why You Might Want an EU IBAN
An EU IBAN (International Bank Account Number) allows you to send and receive payments across Europe seamlessly through the SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) network. This is especially useful if you:
- Work with clients or companies based in France or the EU
- Need to receive salaries or freelance payments in euros
- Want to pay for European services without international transfer fees
- Spend time in France seasonally or travel often in Europe
With an EU IBAN, you gain a local payment identity, making transactions smoother and often faster than using a foreign account.
Eligibility for an eGlobex Account
In the past, opening an account usually required a local address, proof of residence, and an in-person visit. Today, digital-first financial providers such as eGlobex make it possible to open an account remotely from your phone!
You will need to provide:
- Proof of identity (passport, EEA-issued national IDs: identity cards, residence permits, driver’s licenses)
- And Proof of address which needs to be in France (whether it’s your main or secondary residence).
If you do not have a proof of address in your own name, for example, if you’re staying with someone or hosted by a friend/family member, you can still open an eGlobex account!
You will need:
- A copy of your host’s ID
- A proof of address in your host’s name (less than 3 months old)
- The French “attestation d’hébergement” form, completed and signed by your host (downloadable at: https://www.service-public.fr/simulateur/calcul/AttestationHebergement)
How eGlobex Makes It Simple
With eGlobex, you can open an EU IBAN account entirely online. The process is fast and simple:
- Sign up online in just minutes
- Verify your identity with your documents (even if you’re living with a host or at a secondary residence)
- Start sending and receiving SEPA and Instant SEPA payments across Europe
- Get a Globex Mastercard Card for your online and in store payments.
You will also get access to additional tools such as virtual Globex cards
Things to Keep in Mind
- An EU IBAN is accepted across all European Union and EEA countries, making it easy to send and receive payments anywhere in Europe.
- For business use, additional documentation such as proof of business registration may be required.
- The 41 SEPA countries are : Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vatican City.
